A Nebraskan teacher has hailed a TEFL job in Tanzania for potentially giving her the opportunity to experience the country as few other travellers do.
Jeanne Kocher is spending a year in the east African country, where she will be teaching English to college students, the Fremont Tribune reports.
Before jetting off on Wednesday (July 29th), she told the newspaper she has already learnt some Swahili so she can make the most of her time abroad.
"I feel it’s just right to try to experience their culture as much as possible through language and any other way I can," Ms Kocher explained.
"What I want to do now is not to just see the tourist sites, but I want to see the things you typically don’t see. I want to get to know people and find out their customs."
Those hoping to follow in her footsteps may be interested in i-to-i’s TEFL placement in Zanzibar, where volunteers will be placed in Stone Town, the cultural centre of the archipelago and a World Heritage Site.
