There is a "stark" difference between job prospects in the public and private sectors in the UK, which may encourage some to take TEFL jobs abroad.
According to a survey by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, the public sector will see a wave of job cuts in the coming months, while the future of the private sector looks more promising.
In addition, there is a divide in the growth prospects between London and the south of England and the rest of the UK, with employment set to grow in these regions and fall in Scotland and Wales.
Alan Downey, head of public sector at KPMG, claims the survey shows a change in attitude from public sector employers.
"Now they are massively more pessimistic than their private sector counterparts about job prospects, with more than 40 per cent contemplating a reduction in headcount and a significant number planning a pay freeze," he stated.
New research from i-to-i shows that more soon-to-be graduates are contemplating teaching English abroad rather than searching for jobs in the UK after they finish their studies.
