Taking a TEFL course could help people learn how to be assertive in a classroom and ensure that neither pupils nor other adults are able to steal control of a lesson.
Writing on the i-to-i Chalkboard, Honor Baldry pointed out that it is essential that people "take a stand" when they are teaching abroad and this is one of the many skills that a TEFL course can offer.
She noted that adults can sometimes undermine people’s authority in a classroom, but one of the most obvious challenges is the children that are being taught.
"Kids. A lot of the time they’re cute and well-behaved, but sometimes it feels like the spawn of Satan is sat at the desk in front of you," explained Ms Baldry.
In her view, studying a TEFL qualification can give people the confidence to deal with difficult situations.
The teach abroad specialist recently suggested that taking up a TEFL placement overseas is a great way to see the world.
