TEFL services in some remote Indian communities are to receive a boost from the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).
The body has joined forces with the Aga Khan Rural Support Programme to implement language programmes in several rural areas through satellite technology, reports the Express News Service.
Project coordinator Kumar Ujjwal said: "The idea is to provide education to the tribal youths, especially education in English, which is lacking.
"As a community centric learning centre, the Village Resource Centre’s (VRC) aim is to bring access to knowledge to the villagers’ doorstep."
In related news, a recent conference on TEFL teaching methods in India has placed emphasis on harnessing technology in lessons.
A seminar held in conjunction with the University of Cambridge and the British Council in Chennai earlier this month saw experts advocate using social networking sites and blogs to boost progress in the subject, the Express News Service reports.
