Team GB flies to Singapore for Youth Olympics

Posted 12 Aug 2010

People teaching English in Singapore may like to go and watch some of the UK's young athletes competing in the Inaugural Youth Olympic Games.

The Games take place from August 14th until 26th and it is the first time that most of these up and coming athletes have competed in an international competition.

British Airways (BA) transported the 40 youngsters, who are disciplined in 16 sports respectively, to the Chinese city on August 9th.

Tania Devereux, BA global sponsorship manager, said: "Today's promising teenagers have the potential to be tomorrow's stars and we're delighted to be supporting them on their Olympic journey."

For those teaching English in Singapore, this could be the ideal opportunity to watch some of Britain's future stars in competition.

Some of the athletes that will be participating include 400 metre runner Victoria Ohuruogu, sister of Christine, and swimmer Ellie Faulkner.

Currently only 80 per cent of tickets for the Youth Olympic Games have been sold so those teaching English abroad still have the chance to attend.
