Although the benefits of teaching English overseas are numerous for TEFL teachers, they may be even greater for their pupils.
This is according to Jamie Kerr, a Leaving Certificate student from Dunmore in Ireland, who informed the Dundalk Democrat that he is soon planning to jet off to Myanmar in order to teach English overseas.
He and eight other students who are set to make the trip raised the funds themselves thorough old-fashioned hard work, he explained.
Helping to teach the youngsters will be beneficial to their futures, Mr Kerr believes.
"Teaching them English could give them a passport to a better life, give them a new future for themselves," he continued.
Furthermore, it could provide the teachers’ creative skills with a boost, as they will be responsible for devising new communication methods and lesson plans.
Last autumn, head of research at Property Frontiers Christopher Chadd pointed out that some of the benefits of a life overseas include "better weather, cheaper petrol, cheaper food and cheaper alcohol".
