Students who chose to teach English in Thailand may have been inspired to go there after seeing a film which was set in the country.
With movies such as The Beach showing how beautiful the scenery and culture in the Far East nation can be, it seems some travellers may decide where to go on their time away from home partly on this basis, according to new research.
Travelsupermarket.com found that 30 per cent of under-20s have been motivated to go to a country as a result of seeing a certain flick and seven per cent decided that it was Thailand that they wanted to go to.
Bob Atkinson, travel expert at the website, remarked: "It’s hardly surprising that travellers are taking their inspiration from films, we’re a captive audience and the big screen often captures locations at their best."
Among other big films to be shot in the country are Werner Herzog’s Rescue Dawn, Rambo and Bangkok Dangerous, offering those teaching English in Thailand a chance to get a feel for the real-life sets of such movies while they are not working.
