Teaching English abroad ‘best at university level’

Posted 26 Feb 2010

The best place for people to apply their TEFL skills is at university level, one person with experience of teaching English abroad has suggested.

Literacy News readers were asked to give advice to those planning to go on TEFL internships in the near future and bex – who has worked in Japan and Korea – responded by saying that there are a number of advantages to getting a position at a higher education facility.

"Students studying English at the university level are genuinely interested in furthering their English skills and will provide a professional challenge for you," she remarked.

Furthermore, bex said universities often offer better pay and greater job security through the signing of legally binding contracts, meaning that there is no risk of a person being sacked arbitrarily.

Earlier this week, davidparkes23 suggested in his i-to-i Chalkboard blog that people should not get their hopes up too much about getting the placement they want, as there is probably an element of chance in where they will actually end up.ADNFCR-2167-ID-19639679-ADNFCR
