The idea of teaching English abroad is appealing to an increasing number of students, new research has shown.
According to a study by i-to-i, student enquiries to its website onlinetefl.com have increased by 62 per cent over the last four months, with many exploring the career options open to them when they finish their studies.
One soon-to-be graduate following this path is 20-year-old Kelly English, who has decided not to pursue a career in publishing once her English Studies degree at the University of Nottingham has come to an end.
She plans instead to teach English in Japan, stating that there are a number of TEFL jobs in the country and throughout Asia.
Honor Baldry, i-to-i spokesperson, said that teaching English abroad appeals for many different reasons.
"Many want to take a break and get paid to travel after they finish their studies, while others see a stint teaching abroad and gaining experience of another culture as preferable to the possibility of unemployment at home," she added.
It is not just young people who find the idea of teaching English abroad appealing, as many older people can enjoy it as well, according to Shopatlola.com.
