Teaching English abroad ‘a tempting option’ amid recession

Posted 28 Oct 2009

New research from TEFL specialist i-to-i has revealed an increasing number of visits to its website as the recession continues to bite.

While the UK job market remains tough for everyone – not just university leavers and students – some 20,000 teaching posts are available for English-speaking people abroad who have completed a recognised TEFL course.

On the i-to-i website, visits have increased by 22 per cent this month compared with October 2008.

Jobs are available in countries such as South Korea and China, which could provide new opportunities and experiences for those looking to escape the recession.

Asian countries often welcome English-speaking teachers warmly, Malaysia’s Daily Star reported last week.

Journalist Nury Vittachi wrote that many English teachers enjoy the "rock star treatment" during their time abroad and added that the work may be more rewarding than teaching in the UK as teachers tend to be more highly regarded in Asia.ADNFCR-2167-ID-19430126-ADNFCR
