Jaded teachers may want to consider a TEFL placement abroad to boost their passion for the career.
Madeleine Parker, who works at Old Oak Primary in Hammersmith, recently visited Ghana as part of a scheme organised by the National College for School Leadership and found the programme had just that effect, reports the BBC.
She told the news provider: "Being a head teacher can be stressful and with the current recruitment and retention issues, it is important that heads have the chance to experience this kind of sabbatical and renew their enthusiasm for the job."
Ms Parker added that working with so few resources and with children shouldering such large responsibilities was an eye-opener and made her re-assess attitudes to education and development.
She is not the only teacher keen to experience school life overseas. The Hartlepool Mail recently reported that two teachers from Dyke House School in the town have volunteered for a TEFL project in Ghana’s Volta region over the summer holiday period.
