According to Laura Rendell-Dunn, press and marketing executive for Journey Latin America, a South American holiday specialist, Uruguay is easy to get to and explore.
She said: "Apart from the amazing beaches and upmarket hotel resorts of Punta del Este, the country also has one of the most picturesque colonial towns in Latin America, Colonia (del Sacramento)."
Explorers of the country may also like to visit a working ranch, where they can learn to horse-ride or simply find out about how gauchos live, she added.
Those teaching English in Argentina can travel to Uruguay by catamaran and those in Europe can fly from Madrid, Ms Dunn said.
Furthermore Uruguay has a lower cost of living than the UK so money will go further, she added.
Bradt has launched a new tourism guide for the country and describes South America’s second smallest country as peaceful with minimum corruption and almost 100 per cent literacy.
