Teach English in Japan and celebrate the New Year with firemen

Posted 29 Nov 2010

Young people who have chosen to teach English in Japan may like to celebrate the New Year in Tokyo.

Every year in Tokyo, a parade featuring firemen and more than 100 fire engines and helicopters takes place, reports whatsonwhen.com.

Acrobats on bamboo sticks also participate in the procession in Tokyo Big Sight.

The event takes place to remind locals about the hazards of fires and how to prevent them as well as wishing for a good year ahead.

Those who have decided to teach English in Japan could watch this parade as part of their New Year celebrations and to encounter some Asian culture.

Acrobats are dressed in firemen's costumes from the Edo period and they undertake daredevil tricks on bamboo ladders.

Their only support comes from men that are on the ground below.

The Edo period refers to a time in Japanese history when the country was ruled by the shoguns of the Tokugawa family from 1603 until 1868.
