People who plan to teach English in Bangkok may like to attend the International Swan Boat Races at the Chao Phraya River, which takes place from September 18th until 20th.
It is a free event and those teaching English in Thailand could see 20 teams from across the globe gliding down the river in swan boats.
These vessels are narrow and their bows are shaped into mythical swan heads, according to whatsonwhen.com.
There are two categories of race – traditional and international. In the international competition 20 men paddle in boats measuring 48 feet in length and weighing 2,000 pounds along a 650 metre course.
In the traditional race, 50 men compete in each boat that weighs 5,000 pounds and is 96 foot in length.
Spectators may see one or two steermen and a lead paddler who will be shouting encouragement at their team.
Other events that are coming up in Bangkok include the trooping of the colour, which takes place in December.
The King and Queen of Thailand preside over the annual event where members of the elite Royal Guards pledge their allegiance to the family.
