Teach English in Africa and experience cultural festival

Posted 09 Jul 2010

The Zanzibar Cultural Festival is held every year between July 19th and July 25th and is known as a highlight for the island.

People teaching English in Africa could attend and experience the culture of the continent through dance, music and the arts.

The event showcases the vibrant nature of Tanzania and visitors can see traditional and contemporary dance. Many have their roots in ancient rituals.

Guests can browse the many arts and crafts that will be on offer including carved spirit whisks, small fertility dolls, dance masks of the Makonde tribe and beaded fez from the coastal cities.

Taarab music will no doubt be played as it is a very popular form of entertainment on the island. It blends old Egyptian film scores with Swahili vocals.

The festival may provide an ideal opportunity for those teaching English in the region to experience culture first-hand.

Zanzibar is also known for its historical stone town and magnificent beaches where visitors can take part in water sports including scuba diving.
