University students in their final year of studying are exploring opportunities to teach English aborad to escape the depressed graduate jobs market.
In the past three months, i-to-i has seen a 22 per cent rise in enquiries from students, with a survey by High Fliers Research showing that only 36 per cent of would-be graduates expect to find jobs in the UK.
Gordon Mathie, managing director of i-to-i TEFL, said that many students are broadening their horizons and realising the appeal of teaching English overseas.
"I’m not surprised that teaching abroad is becoming more popular
there are amazing, paid opportunities all over the world for this year’s graduates, not just to experience another culture, but to gain skills that will make employers back home siit up and take notice," he added.
Those considering a career teaching English abroad may find that Mexico and Ecuador are two countries worth exploring, as the How to Learn German blog recently stated that they are good places to begin one’s career as a TEFL teacher.
