Four student teachers from an Iowan college will be travelling to Indonesia in April next year.
The youngsters will be teaching English in Indonesia to help them pick up the skills they will need for a career in education.
The Iowa State Daily reports that the Indonesian school is unique as it is strictly an English-only establishment, which the poorest children in the country attend.
Elizabeth Godfrey, a senior in primary school education, is looking forward to teaching English abroad.
She told the news provider: "I'm very excited to interact with the students. Children are children no matter where they're from, but different cultures show you more about their lives."
Ms Godfrey added that she was particularly pleased that the children are from underprivileged backgrounds as they are desperate for education.
Other young people in the US or UK may like to follow in their footsteps and take a TEFL course, which trains people to teach English abroad.
The UK's education secretary Michael Gove recently espoused the benefits of young teachers being trained on the job in a White Paper to parliament.
