Sri Lanka visitor numbers increase by 51

Posted 16 Aug 2010

Since the UK government lifted travel restrictions to the north of Sri Lanka at the beginning of this month, its visitor numbers are expected to increase even more than previously.

Latest figures from the Sri Lankan Tourism Promotion Bureau show that visitors from the UK have increased by 51 per cent in July 2010 compared to the same period last year.

This means that TEFL-qualified people could consider teaching English in Sri Lanka as it is becoming a popular destination once again.

The majority of UK visitors tend to visit the beaches surrounding the capital of Colombo as they are attracted to the golden sands and warm waters of the Indian Ocean.

Furthermore, the tourism board is keen to promote more easterly regions of the country as Sri Lanka is a safe and affordable wildlife destination.

People who wish to teach English in Sri Lanka may like to visit the Yala National Park in order to see a plethora of wildlife or the Sinharaja Forest Reserve.

Next year has been designated the "Visit Sri Lanka Year" by the president.
