It has been widely reported that Richard Lambert, the director-general of the Confederation of British Industry, is concerned about proposed spending cuts.
According to a report in the Guardian on September 6th, Mr Lambert has warned that some universities may not be able to pull through the cuts.
Youngsters considering applying to university next year may like to rethink their options as the quality of teaching in higher education establishments is expected to decline.
They could think about taking a TEFL course instead as this will provide them with a qualification that enables them to teach English abroad, which could lead to a future teaching career.
Johnny Rich, editor of Push.co.uk, has also expressed his worries about proposed spending cuts on education.
He said: "Higher education can't be done on the cheap. Cuts this savage are going to have an effect and I believe it is short sighted because not all spending is the same."
