Grammar is an area which some EFL teachers find unpleasant however, the mark of a good English instructor is the ability to explain this area clearly and simply, it has been claimed.
Ted Tucker, writing on Ted’s TEFLnewbie.com, said that many potential teachers considering teaching English abroad baulk at the idea of going into great detail when it comes to grammar.
However, it is an essential part of the process and the more knowledge a teacher has, the more confidence they will have when teaching it.
"Grammar skills and the ability to simply explain grammar is another hallmark of a skilled EFL teacher. Students expect their teacher to be skilled in grammar and if you aren’t you will probably lack confidence in the classroom," Mr Tucker said.
A recent New Nation article citing communication and language teaching author Adrian Doff highlighted the importance of grammar, stating that it reveals how language works.
