Staff and pupils at a secondary school in Farnworth have announced a new fundraising initiative to generate cash for students in Uganda.
In news that may interest TEFL teachers, St James CE School has set itself the challenge of walking a million miles in a year, the Bolton News reports.
Headteacher Tania Lewyckyj said: "We have established a cultural link with a secondary school in Masooli, Uganda, and thought about walking the equivalent of the mileage to Masooli and back. But then we became more adventurous!"
Sponsorship will be sought from families and local businesses, while school assemblies have informed pupils that it costs just £60 a year to provide education for a child in Masooli.
People inspired to visit a Ugandan school may be interested in i-to-i’s TEFL projects in the country.
Lasting between two and 12 weeks, volunteers will be based in the small village of Niyakasiru in southern Uganda, on the border with Rwanda.
