TEFL teachers should ensure they are prepared for each class they are to teach, as this will help them deliver a better lesson and give them more confidence.
Writing on the i-to-i Chalkboard, Honor Baldry said that many teachers are nervous the first few times they enter a classroom but by taking appropriate steps, the experience can be an enjoyable and productive one.
"If you have a good idea of what you’re aiming to cover in each lesson, the activities you’re going to do and the materials you’ll need, stepping out into that classroom will be massively less scary," she stated.
Lessons do not always go according to plan and therefore it is important teachers have back-up materials.
Ms Baldry added that teachers should not be too downhearted if the first few lessons do not go according to plan and said that they should always focus on the positive aspects of the class.
Those who want extra inspiration for classroom activities may wish to invest in the TEFL activities book written by i-to-i tutor Emma Foers, which contains ideas for various games and tasks.
