‘Poor English skills’ holding back students in Pakistan

Posted 27 Oct 2009

A lack of knowledge of the English language is holding back students in Pakistan, it has been claimed – news that may be of interest to those considering TEFL courses.

Dr Saeed Iqbal, chairman of the department of chemistry at the Government College University, told news provider the Nation that students in his establishment are lacking in basic skills.

He added that language barriers are also a hindrance to the development of communication skills, a problem that can impede young graduates when it comes to competing for the best jobs.

Among those lacking in English language skills are students of technical subjects such as IT, business and science, the representative told the publication.

Mr Iqbal’s opinion comes after news provider Shelter Offshore highlighted last week that Brits planning to relocate overseas may be able to find a better quality of life than that available to them in the UK.
