Being unemployed for a long spell, although it may be something many graduates feel they can not control at the present time, is not a good thing for jobseekers.
This is according to professor of economics at Dartmouth College in New Hampshire David Blanchflower, who told the Times this week that the number of university graduates and young people currently without jobs is a "national crisis".
He added: "A spell of unemployment is bad when young and the longer it is, the worse it is."
Meanwhile, those who are worried about being out of work for too long could opt to take a TEFL online course and head off overseas to build their skills by teaching English abroad.
Expanding their abilities overseas and building on their communication, patience and experience could lead to "better placements and a better salary" for graduates in the future, according to expat website Shelter Offshore.
