People teaching English in Thailand ‘should avoid demos’

Posted 15 Mar 2010

Anyone currently teaching English in Thailand should be sure to avoid the demonstrations that are currently taking place in Bangkok, according to official advice released by the UK government.

While people travelling and working in TEFL jobs may be intrigued by the protests that have been taking place recently in the Thai capital, it is safer not to get involved, claimed the foreign and commonwealth office.

The institution advised individuals to stay indoors if they live in the area and violence breaks out, while avoiding the areas that demonstrations are occurring could also be wise.

"Estiates vary, but several sources indicate that there could be around 100,000 demonstrators and up to 50,000 police and military personnel on the streets," noted the government establishment.

Protests have been taking place in the city since Friday March 12th, with protesters calling for fresh democratic elections to take place in the country and the current prime minister refusing to grant this.ADNFCR-2167-ID-19669728-ADNFCR
