AA Insurance announced on August 13th that customers with travel insurance may be covered against delays or abandonment.
This means that someone moving abroad to teach English who obtained travel insurance from the AA before the strikes by Unite members were announced is covered by their policy.
It applies to both single trips and return journeys so if someone is faced with travel chaos this August, they should be able to get their money back.
Christian Young, director of AA Travel insurance, said: "Travel insurance can and does help people in such situations although no insurer will meet a claim if the cover is taken out after the strike action is confirmed."
He added that travellers should always contact their travel agent to make alternative arrangements or re-arrange the trip for a later date.
People moving abroad in order to teach English may be faced with travel chaos as members of the trade union Unite have voted to stage a walkout at six of the country's airports including Heathrow, over a pay dispute.
