More than a third of graduates end up having to claim Jobseeker's Allowance after leaving university due to the current job market, a new study has found.
Recruitment website totaljobs.com found that 38 per cent of graduates have claimed benefits since gaining their degree, reports Inspiring Interns.
Of these, 37 per cent claimed the benefit for more than six months and a further 14 per cent were on the dole for over a year.
If a graduate is currently in the same predicament as this and they want to find a job, it may be worth taking a TEFL course.
A TEFL course can cost as little as £149 and once it has been completed the participant is qualified to teach English abroad, for which there are ample vacancies across the world.
Mike Fetters, graduate director at the job website, told the news provider: "The reality is that as a country we haven't been very good at creating graduates that are specialised in areas that employers are demanding."
