Online shopping growing in popularity in China

Posted 18 Aug 2010

People teaching English in China may want to start shopping online as e-commerce in the country is expanding and becoming easier to do.

On August 18th, it was revealed by Chinese media that internet sales in the country had increased by 60 per cent in the first six months of the year.

A total of $331 billion (£212 billion) was spent online between January and June this year and e-commerce is expected to increase by another 35 per cent in the next few years.

People teaching English in China may find it easier to do their shopping on the internet if they are unsure of the language, especially as more retailers are setting up online stores as a way of cutting costs and improving efficiency.

Qian Xiaoqian, deputy director of the State Council Information Office, said: " With more third-generation networks expanding, and more and more mobile devices being made available to people, the mobile internet will boom and create more business opportunities," quotes Oneindia.

PayPal recently announced that online shopping was increasing in popularity because consumers are searching for bargains on everyday items in an attempt to save money.
