Students and teachers are benefitting from the progress being made in online learning techniques, according to one education insider.
Jamie O’Connell, marketing director of the Student Room, claimed that the internet allows people to get "credible support" from their peers by logging on to the web.
In his view, online technology opens up new opportunities for learning outside of the traditional classroom, with fresh tools and resources available for use in education.
"It’s an exciting time in education with the academic possibilities of social networking, educational games, online collaboration tools and video all beginning to be realised," remarked Mr O’Connell.
He suggested that the key to successful educational structures is "communication without barriers", where a flexible framework allows students and teachers to make the most of the applications available to them.
Mr O’Connell’s comments were made following a statement by the Association of School and College Leaders, which indicated that any future governments need to focus on building solid relationships between schools and colleges.
