Jobseekers should make sure they put keywords in their CV if posting them on the internet, it has been suggested.
Managing director of onrec.com David Hurst explained many employers use software which searches through uploaded files and are designed to pick out certain words or phrases.
He said: "It is very important to think about the skills and qualifications you’ve got and highlight them so that they get found."
For example, people who have worked in a TEFL job could emphasise on their CVs the skills they acquired such as working with people and organising lesson plans.
Some recruitment websites allow people to create different CVs for various positions and people can use this format to build up their basic details, Mr Hurst added.
According to the Monster Employment index, the online job availability saw a 19-month low in November. Demand for work available in the arts, entertainment, sports, leisure and legal sectors all decreased.
It also revealed that Northern Ireland was the only region to receive an increase in available online jobs.
