The editor of a leading independent guide to UK universities has suggested further education and traditional training schemes are not the only way for school leavers to secure a job.
In comments that could interest people considering a TEFL placement as a stepping stone towards a related career, Johnny Rich of Push says diversity should be encouraged.
"There is no one right way into all jobs and similarly there is no wrong way to do it," he maintains.
"If we have a choice of different training options and different educational routes that lead into work then different people can choose what suits them best and employers can pick the people who have been trained according to their needs."
Meanwhile, working as an English teacher abroad could offer long-term work opportunities, a newspaper article recently suggested.
The Independent claimed the perception of TEFL placements as mere ‘fillers’ for student gap years is wrong.
Instead, the newspaper argued, the sector can offer real career prospects for people willing to commit to the job beyond their placement contract.
