New teacher ‘learns from students every day’

Posted 11 Mar 2010

A teacher who used an online learning programme to get trained up has claimed that he is learning about himself during work, as well as developing his ability to impart knowledge.

Paudie O’Neill explained to the Irish Times that he was 29 when he decided he wanted to leave his job as a civil engineer and become a teacher and he feels that it allowed him to bring maturity and experience to the table.

He noted that his online learning programme has not been easy, as he has spent hours trying to get his lesson plan right each night, but he is finding out a lot about himself at the same time as teaching.

"The little ones are a challenge – you have to work very hard to teach them the smallest thing. The older ones are different. They’re easier to work with on some levels," Mr O’Neill was quoted as saying.

One student recently told the University Alliance Online that his online learning course fitted perfectly around his busy schedule.ADNFCR-2167-ID-19664819-ADNFCR
