Move abroad to teach English and escape increasing food prices

Posted 08 Sep 2010

Food prices have increased by the highest amount for a year so consumers could consider moving abroad to teach English in order to find a cheaper cost of living.

According to the British Retail Consortium (BRC), overall shop price inflation increased from 1.5 per cent in July to 1.7 per cent in August.

Food prices also experienced an increase to 3.8 per cent in August from just 2.5 per cent in July.

The last time that food prices increased by this much was in July 2009.

Stephen Robertson, director general of the BRC, said: "Non-food inflation continues to fall and is at its lowest since November 2009. But food inflation is up to a 13-month high.

"Past rises in the cost of global commodities, such as wheat and sugar, are filtering through to food prices."

Therefore, Brits who wish to avoid the rising cost of living could consider moving overseas and teaching English abroad.

In the Mercer Cost of Living Survey 2010, London was the 17th most expensive city in the world to live.

Hanoi in Vietnam and Bangkok in Thailand were placed at number 121 on the list, which means it is cheaper to live in these countries.
