‘More women taking roles in IT’

Posted 30 Jan 2009

Advancements in the IT sector have encouraged more women to take up roles in this area, it has been suggested.

A lot of organisations in this field are adaptable and allow their staff to carry out jobs at home, explained chair of the British Computer Society (BCS) Women’s Forum Rebecca George.

The "flexibility and autonomy" this gives workers has played a large part in females in particular deciding to develop a career in IT, she continued.

Ms George said: "Technical arrangements … mean that you have a very similar experience whether you are working in the office or in a client’s location."

As well as giving more flexibility to employment, technology can also provide students with more choice in their education.

Completing a TEFL course online, for example, enables the learner to study where and when they want – as long as they have access to a computer and internet connection.

The BCS was established in 1957 and is the leading body for those who are employed in the information technology industry.ADNFCR-2167-ID-19001627-ADNFCR
