Mexico receives celebrity backing

Posted 29 May 2009

People eyeing a TEFL job in Mexico may be encouraged by a new marketing campaign aimed at reassuring travellers following the recent outbreak of swine flu.

Dubbed Mexico’s Alive, the promo stars a host of local and international celebrities including Spanish tenor Placido Domingo and FC Barcelona player Rafael Marquez.

The multi-million dollar campaign was launched by the country’s president, Felipe Calderon, earlier this week (May 25th).

He said: "It’s more than a promotional campaign, it’s a national movement which requires the participation of all Mexicans, especially those who are most well-known."

At least 83 people are known to have died in the Central American country from the H1N1 epidemic, which started last month.

However, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office has now lifted its advisory on all but essential travel to Mexico, which was put in place at the height of the health scare, following a decline in the number of new cases.ADNFCR-2167-ID-19192484-ADNFCR
