TEFL graduates should have no problem teaching English in Brazil or securing another volunteer position in the country, it has been suggested.
Travel consultant Lisa Rudkin of Sunvil Traveller stated that the South American destination offers "many opportunities" for those interested, including teaching children, wildlife conservation and carrying out repair work in the favelas.
Visitors can also take up options such as gaining work experience at a surf school, volunteering with disadvantaged children with capoeira and helping with other social and community projects, she said.
Brazil has grown in popularity as a tourist destination in recent years. Between 2001 and 2008, the number of arrivals in the country rose from 4.7 million to 7.2 million, according to companiesandmarkets.com’s Brazil Tourism Report Q1 2010.
And further increases are expected in the future, with the visitor levels expected to hit 9.2 million by 2014.
The decision to host the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro is predicted to improve the attractiveness of Brazil.
