TEFL teachers and other travellers heading to foreign climes may soon benefit from a host of new digital technology devices to help them make the most of their time abroad.
Lonely Planet reveals it is expanding its output to include mobile phone apps and other handheld technology products.
Travel editor Tom Hall explains: "We are always looking at emerging technologies to offer, if possible, services and information to travellers."
He adds that Lonely Planet’s aim is "to make the information that you want available to you when you want it, in a format of your choosing at a price that’s right".
The firm has already invested in this area and currently boasts a mobile internet site, digital phrasebooks, online podcasts and mobile city guides available on Nokia handsets.
A recent report from STA Travel suggests these developments may signal the end of traditional guide books altogether, insisting the future of tourism lies in near field communication and radio frequency identification chips.
