Living in Costa Rica

Posted 29 Dec 2008

More Brits, Europeans and Americans who are looking for an affordable and tropical place to live are heading to the Caribbean island of Costa Rica, it has been reported.

Over the years, people have learned more about the location and it has started to attract less adventurous visitors and people who are looking to set up home somewhere affordable, explained Shelter Offshore.

It said people in Costa Rica "can live well for less and ride out the impending global recession in relative comfort".

Before people relocate to the island they should gain a better understanding of the country by finding out about its history and culture, the website added.

Those who have completed a TEFL course might want to consider teaching English in Costa Rica as the island’s main language is Spanish.

According to the Costa Rica travel site, a lot of people living in San Jose speak some English but it is rarely spoken in more rural areas.

It adds the dialect spoken varies slightly from that in Spain and that "Ticos speak more slowly and clearly than in other Latin American countries".ADNFCR-2167-ID-18949069-ADNFCR
