People working for Sheffield City Council could be faced with redundancy if its spending cuts lead to job losses.
The GMB has predicted that around 1,000 jobs could be lost at the council following its £220 million spending cuts over the next four years, reports the Independent.
A statement from the council has not put a figure on the number of people who may lose their jobs and said that it is facing a challenging economic climate, which is why these cuts will be imposed.
Tim Roache, GMB official, told the news provider: "We believe there will be in excess of 1,000 job losses in Sheffield to achieve this level of savings.
"This is a major blow to employment in the city and there is no point in the council trying to dispute our figure."
People faced with unemployment could consider taking a TEFL course as it trains them to teach English abroad.
In this way, the TEFL-qualified person can find job opportunities overseas and start earning money.
This could be important as the Consumer Credit Counselling Service recently announced that those claiming unemployment benefits are three times more likely to be in debt.
