Firstly, potential learners should make sure that the TEFL course is independently accredited as there is no formal governing body, which means anyone can hand out certificates.
A good way of doing this is to check that the course is accredited by the Open and Distance Learning Quality Council (ODL QC).
The ODL QC shows learners which courses will provide a good service and gives advice about online or flexible learning.
The news provider wrote in their blog: "Doing the cheapest or quickest TEFL course in the world is all well and good, but if the school you’re applying to doesn’t recognise it, they’re very unlikely to give you a job!"
Furthermore, choosing a large provider of the course could be the best option especially as these companies will have contacts in schools all over the world.
Another tip is to find out how much support tutors supply throughout the course and see how long the provider will help graduates in their future careers.
