‘Have injections’ before moving abroad

Posted 21 Jul 2010

With reports this week that Cheryl Cole is finally on the mend after contracting the sometimes fatal tropical disease malaria, it is important that those planning on teaching English abroad take the right precautions.

Singer Cole has been texting Simon Cowell telling him that she wishes to return to work after catching the illness while in Tanzania.

Malaria and other diseases such as rabies can be avoided if people moving abroad to work or teach English obtain their injections or take the relevant medication before travelling overseas.

In her i-to-i chalkboard blog, Katherine wrote about her own preparations for teaching English in China.

She wrote: “So today I went for my first set of injections for China and very nearly passed out (mainly at the price!). I had the first of my rabies injections which will cost almost £300 in total.”

However, she said that she felt proud of herself for getting them done before she embarks on an eight month adventure in China.ADNFCR-2167-ID-800003922-ADNFCR
