Graduates in Ireland ‘opting to teach English overseas’

Posted 27 Oct 2009

Graduates in Ireland are seeking work overseas due to the lack of opportunities available to them in their home country.

This is according to John Walshe, writer for the Irish Independent, who stated that newly qualifiied teachers are likely to be heading for countries such as New Zealand and the Middle East to pursue their careers.

"Anecdotal evidence suggests that many are going abroad to teach, while others were lucky to get jobs because of the high number of retirements this year," Mr Walshe asserted.

He added that many of those who refrain from branching out and teaching English overseas "are scrabbling about, picking up work wherever they can".

In helping people abroad to learn another language by teaching English overseas, Irish graduates could play an integral part in assisting youngsters to gain valuable skills for their futures, according to the Malaysian national news agency Bernama.com.
