Graduates advised ‘look beyond the UK’

Posted 28 May 2009

The Prince’s Trust is advising young unemployed people that better job prospects may exist overseas.

Adam Hale, chairman of the technology leadership group at the charity, told the BBC it is important that people cast their nets further as the recession starts to bite.

He explained: "We are but one country in the global landscape. There are lots of countries round the world where GDP is growing not shrinking.

"Don’t constrain yourself to thinking about the UK."

Teaching English overseas may fit the bill, while even voluntary TEFL work could help improve youngsters’ future employability.

Shaffique Prabatani, chairman of the Inter Cultural Youth Exchange, added to the news provider: "There’s never been a better time to gain new skills by volunteering abroad."

In related news, an article in the Independent recently hailed a TEFL qualification as one of the most mobile and in-demand skills and a great way to supplement travel finances on a year out.ADNFCR-2167-ID-19190101-ADNFCR
