Generation Y ‘keen to travel’

Posted 30 Mar 2009

Students, graduates and young workers are increasingly looking to make the most of travel opportunities.

The next two years will be particularly busy for the so-called Generation Y, according to American Express, with more trips planned than ever.

Avinash Lalwani, director of global financial services at airports for American Express, said at London’s recent Passenger Terminal Expo: "Generation Y has just started entering the workforce in the last four or five years.

"This is a very technologically savvy generation who are very educated, knowledgeable about things that are happening around the world."

Mr Lalwani added that this demographic’s green conscience would probably prompt them to make environmentally-friendly or sustainable travel decisions.

In other news that may interest TEFL teachers, CNN reports US firm Reach to Teach has seen a 100 per cent increase in demand to teach English in Asia in the last six months.

In addition, the company’s director of school relations, Mitch Gordon, has noted a significant rise in the number of current TEFL teachers extending their jobs abroad for an extra year.
