Gap year industry ‘growing’ among adults

New research has shown that a growing number of adults are escaping the shrinking jobs market by spending time travelling abroad.

As redundancies soar, the report by Travelex suggests many are choosing to take a gap year instead of hunting for further employment.

As many as three-quarters of those hit by job losses are planning this course of action, with those aged 30 to 55 twice as likely to head abroad following redundancy than the 18 to 24 demographic.

In comments that may inspire people eyeing a TEFL jobs overseas, Peter Davies, director of Travelex, said: "Our recent research highlights that the grown up gap year is a rapidly growing market, with many people opting for an extended break to destinations that they may not have visited in their youth."

Those considering following suit may be interested in new financial advice urging better research of the cost of living abroad.
