Fundraising ‘recommended to finance gap year projects’

Posted 27 Aug 2009

TEFL teachers concerned about how to finance projects abroad could be interested in new comments from meaningful travel company i-to-i.

The firm, which offers a range of teach English programmes overseas, insists fundraising before the placement is a good way to help cover costs.

Spokesperson Katie Mossman explains: "A lot of our volunteers plan trips as part of onward travel somewhere, so often by the time they get to our projects they’ve already spent a lot of money they have earmarked.

"We encourage them to do a lot of fundraising before they go, just to create a lot more awareness for what they are doing.

"It’s amazing how many people get on board once you try."

Ms Mossman adds that financial trouble can also be avoided by careful planning and not cramming too much into too short a time.

People concerned about gap year finances could also consider a teaching internship in China.

i-to-i, which is offering the placement, claims applicants can earn up to £2,000.ADNFCR-2167-ID-19333957-ADNFCR
