Students in the USA have been told the importance of language skills before embarking on jobs abroad.
During a talk on international careers, undergraduates at the University of Wisconsin in Madison were advised to brush up on a second language, college newspaper the Daily Cardinal reports.
Addressing students, Stephen Halloway of the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation also highlighted the importance of maintaining relationships with professors and using business networking sites to hunt down foreign work.
He said, "Don’t discount it. When looking for a job everything’s fair game."
Other advice included signing up for internships and not having over-inflated salary expectations.
One big international recruiter is the European Commission, which recently launched an appeal for native English speakers to work as interpreters to fill a predicted shortage.
