A-level results are due to be released this Thursday (August 19th) and a career guidance expert is 'dreading' it.
Andy Gardner, moderator of the HE advisors community for the Institute of Careers Guidance, believes if youngsters drop a grade it will be harder for them to find a university place compared to previous years.
He said: "I have never dreaded an A-level results day like I have this one. If people drop a grade the chances of them getting rejected are going to be much higher than they have been in the past."
However, there are alternatives to university that a young person may like to consider if they cannot get onto the course that they want this year.
They could take a TEFL course and learn how to teach English abroad instead. They then may like to take a year out and spend the time teaching English overseas while acquiring new skills.
Mr Gardner's comments follow a report in the Daily Mail on August 10th, which claimed that clearing places would be limited this year and 250,000 applicants could be faced with disappointment.
