‘Equality counts’ when teaching English overseas

Posted 30 Mar 2010

TEFL graduates have been told to ensure they treat all the children in their classes evenly when teaching English overseas.

Giving advice on how to control a group of students in her i-to-i Chalkboard blog, emmafoers wrote that it is important to deal with everyone equally, as tutors who are "fair" generally garner greater respect from their pupils.

However, she also warned that different techniques might be required depending on who is being taught and stressed that the same approach will not always be effective with everyone.

"Every teacher has their own style and methods – work out what works best for you but remember you may need to adapt your style for different classes," she commented.

Emma recently claimed that teaching children is very different to teaching adults, but suggested that once someone has learnt a few techniques that they can fall back on, they can get by without too many worries.ADNFCR-2167-ID-19697223-ADNFCR
