English teachers could be needed in Vietnam

Posted 31 Aug 2010

Primary schools in rural districts of Vietnam have revealed they lack the staff, resources and have overcrowded classrooms following the announcement that all students must learn English.

Last month the Ministry of Education announced that it wanted all Vietnamese children to learn English from grade three, reports Saigon English Edition.

However, the news provider stated on August 27th, that the lack of teachers and facilities could curb this initiative.

Therefore, TEFL-qualified people may like to teach English in Vietnam in order to help primary school children learn the language.

The ministry wants 70 per cent of Vietnamese children to be learning English by 2015 and 100 per cent by 2020.

Teachers in Ho Chi Minh City, which has been teaching the language for the last ten years, have cited that a lack of textbooks could prevent this from happening.

Nguyen Ngoc Hung, the ministry's English expert, told the news provider: "Teachers should not be unduly worried since the new syllabus is similar to the old one and provincial education departments can decide on what books to use."

People teaching English in Vietnam may have noticed that new textbooks have started to be given to schools since August 20th as part of a governmental initiative.ADNFCR-2167-ID-800045896-ADNFCR
